Our parents absolutely LOVED receiving the blue ribbons. It was so incredibly meaningful for all of us here at RISE Services, Inc. Together we created 50 picture frames for each family, and on the picture mat, our coordinators who work hand in hand with the families wrote personal quotes to the parents on how they've made a difference in our lives and in the life of the person they support in their home, creating that family for the person in need. To make the gift even more meaningful we also attached a “Who I Am Makes A Difference”™ blue ribbon to each frame.

During the picnic we presented them with the frame and mat and gave our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all that they do. We asked them to put this picture frame somewhere they will look at every day, especially on the hard days, to remind themselves that who they are DOES make a difference! The Blue Ribbon Ceremony created so much laughter and happy tears for us and the families. Everyone felt uplifted and inspired to pass on their extra blue ribbons to someone important in their lives and community. I realized the acknowledgment of myself was when I was given the opportunity to honor the parents with a blue ribbon and let them know how important they are to me, giving a blue ribbon was the best part! The highlight of the day was that throughout our picnic we heard "BINGs" in the background as people honored each other with blue ribbons.

I can't thank Difference Makers International enough for allowing me the opportunity to honor our parents in this way. I feel so lucky to be a part of this wonderful program and look forward to spreading the Difference Makers’ message to the surrounding areas of Utah and other states where organization is and beyond! Thank you, again, so much for helping to create this wonderful opportunity.  Such a powerful message in the form of a little blue ribbon.
